The New Strand
About This Spot
Stepping into The New Strand in Eardisley feels like entering a cherished corner of village life, where time slows just enough to appreciate small pleasures. This is a cozy, family-run bar that wears many hats — part traditional pub, part tea room, and part community hub. From the warm glow of the fireplace to the shelves lined with secondhand books, the atmosphere invites you to linger, whether for a quiet moment alone or a casual catch-up with friends.
The pace here is unhurried, matching the gentle rhythms of the Hereford countryside. Friendly faces greet you, not as customers but as neighbors, making the space feel intimate and familiar. There’s a nurturing comfort in the air, reflected in how carefully the food is crafted and the thoughtful way guests are cared for throughout their visit.
Food and drink at The New Strand feel like homemade moments — dishes that warm you from the inside out, rather than flash-in-the-pan trends. Whether it’s the simple joy of perfectly poached eggs or a generous helping of macaroni and cheese, everything carries a sense of honesty and care. The accompanying sauces hint at tradition, while the occasional treat like carrot cake offers home-baked delight. Add a good cup of coffee or tea, preferably savored beside the fire, and you find more than a meal — you find solace.
But The New Strand is more than the sum of its parts. It’s a place that quietly champions community, serving not just as a bar and eatery but also as a bookshop and post office. This blending of roles gives it a unique warmth — a testament to how local gathering spots nurture connections beyond transactions. Here, every visit feels like a small celebration of belonging.

Found this little gem on a motorbike ride today. Scones were delicious, coffee & tea were good. Hubby says carrot cake was lovely too. Such a quirky place but really reasonably priced. If you're looking for a book is also an amazing place to visit.

Got take away, great coffee, staff has the greatest hearts and a HUGE collection of books.

I suppose I'm a bit biased as this is my local. But it is a traditional family run pub and tea room and bookshop that does food as well. Like Sunday lunches. It's a good family pub, the puddings are amazing, all cooked on the premises, not like some where they are bought in. And the atmosphere is welcoming.

Most welcoming people ever! Biggest hearts and checked back with us to make sure the food and we where okay! The food was excellent! We had a Christmas dinner! Homemade puddings and cheese and crackers! What a delight! They sat us by the fire which was perfect for a cold day! The staff where so friendly and everything tasted wonderful! Would recommend to anyone!

Amazing place. A trip back in time but beautiful for it. Good, honest food. But more importantly a place that's keeping a small community going. Not just a cafe but a second hand bookshop, a pub, and a post office.

I had a lovely time here! Ordered a breakfast and and coffee which were both really nice, the lady who served me was polite and friendly and the cozy seating area was nice and simple, would highly recommend if passing through :)

Exceptionally accomaditing, we only dropped in for something, simple, when they were set up for Sunday Lunch and we got two bowls of home made soup.

Dropped in unexpected and found a really nice, cosy old style pub with friendly locals and staff and some excellent beer. Wish it was closer to me.
